Ensaio sobre a cegueira é um romance do escritor português José Saramago, publicado em 1995 e traduzido para diversas línguas. A obra se tornou uma das mais famosas de seu autor, juntamente com Todos os Nomes e Memorial do Convento.

O romance aborda a emergência de uma inédita praga de uma repentina cegueira abatendo uma cidade não identificada, inexplicável e incurável. Tal "cegueira branca" — assim nomeada pois as pessoas infectadas percebem em seus olhos nada mais que uma superfície leitosa — manifesta-se primeiramente em um homem sentado no trânsito e, lentamente, se espalha pelo país. Aos poucos, todos acabam cegos e reduzidos, pela obscuridade, a meros seres lutando por seus instintos. À medida que os afectados pela epidemia são colocados em quarentena, em condições desumanas, e os serviços estatais começam a falhar, a trama segue a mulher de um médico, a única pessoa que não é afectada pela doença que cega todos os outros.
